The Venturing Officers' Association works to promote and support the Venturing Program in the council. Its officers are Venturers invested in Venturing and Sea Scouts throughout the council.
Philmont Woodbadge Staff & Participant Opportunity
Wood Badge Course 118 is looking for a female youth Venturer to serve on staff. There are also opportunities for Venturers over the age of 18 to come as participants. The course will be August 21-27 at Philmont Scout Camp in Cimarron, NM. We have plenty of people traveling from Dallas, so carpooling could be arranged. There is also scholarship money available if anyone needs help with the $495 course fee. The fee covers meals, lodging, course hat (straw Stetson cowboy hat), T-shirt & backpack. If you are interested, please contact Tonya Leonard
Venturing Crew 728, Richardson, has 4 youth slots
available for Philmont this summer (ages 14-20). We had an injury scratch and now our numbers do not match Philmont requirements (majority youth). We can support co-ed or all boys (no adult slots
available). You do not currently have to be registered as a Venturer. We can register you prior to departure.
Trek 17 (North Country with Baldy). Trek number is 720-K. We will be staying at the NRA Whittington Center for 2 nights in Competitor Housing. During the day after the drive into Raton we will be shooting at the Whittington range (we have a Range Safety Officer accompanying the Crew).
We can work with you on expenses if needed. The total cost:
Philmont BSA Program Fees $870
Ground Transportation to Philmont,
Lodging in route to Philmont,
Preparation Campouts $300
If you are interested, please contact Joe Tavares

The National Sea Scout Committee has received many questions regarding the effects of the Sea Scout Resolution. These quesions have been answered in this Frequently Asked Question Fact Sheet.
The new online learning portal for Venturing has been released in the BSA Learn Center, and starting is as simple as firing up your web browser.
As an alternative to classroom training at the local council, this portal is the latest in a series of Scouting U updates, which allows volunteers to complete their leader specific training completely online.
The training content for Venturing comprises of 14 e-learning modules and are broken into three easy-to-follow learning plans: Before the First Meeting, First 30 Days, and Position Trained. Whether you are taking Venturing training for the first time or just need a refresher, you can explore specific topics such as how to plan an event, selecting officers, annual program planning, and even how to interact with young adults. All modules range from 6 to 17 minutes in length, allowing Venturing volunteers to be position specific trained in approximately 2 ½ hours!
To access the BSA Learn Center, login to my.scouting.org and click on the Position Specific Training graphic on right side of your screen. For assistance, please contact the Member Care Contact Center at (972)580-2489 or email@example.com.
